Investigation into Attorney General James and Senator Schiff

Criminal charges are being considered against New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Senator Adam Schiff in Virginia and Maryland. This is due to allegations they falsified property records for better loan terms, as reported by sources within the Justice Department.

On Thursday, Attorney General Pam Bondy appointed Ed Martin as a special prosecutor to oversee the case against James and Schiff, who may face charges of mortgage fraud, bank fraud, and wire fraud, which could result in up to 30 years in prison.

Martin, a former U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C., expressed, “The Attorney General and President Trump have given me a very serious mission.” He added that he is dedicated to following the facts wherever they may lead.

Typically, special counsels have the power to conduct criminal investigations and prosecutions in significant cases like this one, often working outside their usual jurisdictions.

The allegations against James include improperly altering details on her mortgage application. She reportedly named her father as her husband to secure a favorable loan and misrepresented her residency for a property in Norfolk, Virginia.

As for Schiff, he faces accusations of multiple frauds, including mail and bank fraud. He allegedly misrepresented a Maryland property as his primary residence while claiming California apartments for tax and mortgage purposes.

These misrepresentations, reportedly made from 2003 to 2019, enabled both individuals to access lower interest rates and tax incentives on federally supported loans.

Both James and Schiff have denied any wrongdoing.

Subpoenas have been issued, and witnesses are beginning to testify in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding these cases in Virginia and Maryland.

The investigation into James’ properties started in April when Bill Prute, the director of the Federal Housing and Finance Agency, referred a criminal case to the Department of Justice. Allegedly, Pulte claimed that James “falsified bank documents and property records to secure government support and better lending terms,” concerning her request in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2023.

Martin noted, “Bill Palt and his FHFA team initiated this with his referral.” As he put it, “Tish James and Adam Schiff always say, ‘No one is beyond the law.'”
