Jimmy Kimmel Discusses Liberal Voices in Comedy

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel opened up about the “repulsive” liberal voices that, according to him, have deterred people from supporting Democrats during an appearance on “Sarah Silverman Podcast.” He emphasized the troubling atmosphere in leftist culture since Donald Trump’s presidency began, criticizing those who dismiss Trump voters expressing regret for their support.

Silverman used the backlash faced by podcast host Joe Rogan, after he spoke positively about Trump for the 2024 election, to illustrate her point. She described the situation as “sarcasm” and declared that the party known for inclusiveness comes off as “incredibly elitist.”

Kimmel, who campaigned for Democrats in the elections, defended his party’s intentions but acknowledged that some progressive figures have indeed turned people away. He pointed out, “Yes, but that’s not – it’s not a party. It’s not a majority. It’s a loud voice that scares people from saying what they believe and making you think twice about jokes and stuff.” He highlighted how many of these voices can sometimes repel others rather than engage them, adding that humor often plays a crucial role.

Reflecting on the current climate, Kimmel noted, “You know, a lot of their points work, but a lot of them just repel them in terms of fighting people out.” He went on to explain that some people feel they can’t express themselves freely anymore, which leads to them saying things like, “Oh, you’re not funny. I don’t want to be around you.” If he had to sum it up, he’d likely say it’s a complicated matter.

Previously, in April, Kimmel criticized some humorless liberals for their attempts to cancel him amid Trump’s rise. “I think a lot of the anger is completely manufactured. A lot of these angry people don’t seem to be really angry,” he remarked, suggesting that those who attacked comedians severely contributed to Trump’s political success.

Furthermore, following the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show in July, Trump implied that Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon might be the next late-night hosts facing similar fates.
