Giants to Start Russell Wilson in Preseason Opener Against Bills

The New York Giants are set to have Russell Wilson start their first preseason game against the Buffalo Bills this Saturday at 1 PM, according to reports. The duration of his playtime remains uncertain, but rookie quarterback Jackson Dart is also anticipated to see considerable action.

Wilson, at 36, joined the team during the offseason on a one-year, $10.5 million contract, quickly established as the starting quarterback at the beginning of training camp in July.

Last season, Wilson appeared in 11 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers and recorded a 6-5 record. He completed 63.7% of his passes, throwing for 2,482 yards, with 16 touchdowns against five interceptions. It’s worth noting that the Giants didn’t stop at Wilson; they also signed Jameis Winston on a two-year deal. It’s still unclear how much time Winston will get in the game, but he and Dart are expected to take the bulk of the snaps for the team’s first and second units.

This is a crucial competition for both Winston and Dart as they vie for backup roles throughout the training camp, and it seems the competition will continue on Saturday.

Winston played 12 games against the Cleveland Browns last year, starting seven of them, and he completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards, with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His career has seen him take risks, resulting in 154 touchdowns and 111 interceptions over ten years.

On the other hand, Dart had an impressive season at Ole Miss, leading the SEC with a completion percentage of 69.3%, racking up 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and only six interceptions.

If Wilson performs well in the preseason, there’s a chance Dart might find it challenging to secure playing time once the regular season starts. It’s a delicate balance, and the stakes are high as everyone anticipates how it will all unfold.
