DC Lawyer Aims to Change Laws Amid Rising Youth Crime

Janine Pirro, a lawyer based in Washington, DC, has expressed her determination to “change the law” in response to what she perceives as an increase in violent crimes committed by young individuals in the capital. During a press conference held at the White House on Monday, she voiced her concerns about the crime rate, attributing a significant portion of it to what she called “young punks.” Standing alongside President Trump and other Cabinet members, she declared that “today is changing.”

In an effort to address this issue, Trump has threatened to “federate” the National Guard, suggesting that more security measures could be on the horizon. Pirro criticized the existing laws, stating, “They don’t care where they are,” referring to the criminals in question. She pointed out the inadequacies of the law, especially concerning young offenders, noting, “If you’re 14, 15, 16, 17 years old and have a gun, I can’t touch you.” This, she argues, must change.

Pirro also highlighted the need to challenge the DC Council and modify what she termed “absurd laws,” including the concept of “no cash bail.” She insisted that law-abiding citizens deserve better protection. “And that’s starting today,” she asserted.

Her comments came during a larger press conference where Trump promised to deploy hundreds of DC National Guard troops in a bid to restore legal order and public safety. He went on to address homelessness in the capital, stating that the homeless “have to leave immediately” and that they would be offered housing outside the area.

Despite this heated rhetoric, it’s worth noting that violent crime rates in Washington, DC are reportedly at their lowest in three decades.
