Whistleblower Claims Schiff Approved Leaking Classified Information
A former intelligence officer who worked with the House Intelligence Committee Democrats alleged back in 2017 that Adam Schiff, then a Democratic representative from California, had endorsed the leaking of classified information to pursue legal action against President Trump.
According to a report, Schiff, who was the committee’s ranking member and chairman at the time, allegedly announced this leak during an all-staff meeting, suggesting it was “a bit of a disrespect to President Donald J. Trump, the US president.” This indicates a willingness to manipulate sensitive information in a politically charged atmosphere.
When the whistleblower raised concerns regarding the legality of this proposed leak, it was indicated that other officers felt relieved, as they were not involved in the discussions at that particular meeting.
Later, there were additional conversations at another meeting, where officials condemned the idea of leaking classified material as “unethical and offensive.” Following these discussions, the whistleblower reportedly reached out to the FBI for guidance.
The Department of Justice later informed the whistleblower that they would not be pursuing an investigation since lawmakers are typically exempt from actions taken on the House floor.
Interestingly, staff members noted that Schiff was quite distressed following the 2016 election, as he believed he would have been appointed director of the CIA had Hillary Clinton won the presidency.
Schiff had voiced strong concerns about Russia’s role in the election, suggesting a deeper crisis was unfolding in the US political landscape. “For years, certain officials used their positions by selectively leaking classified information to shape political narratives,” stated FBI Director Kash Patel. He went on to explain that these actions were aimed at weaponizing intelligence for political purposes.
Patel also highlighted the erosion of public trust in institutions as a serious consequence of these abuses. As the FBI pushes for accountability alongside the DOJ, there is now a window for Congress to investigate how political power has been manipulated.
Schiff’s office was contacted for comments regarding these allegations, but there was no response by the time this was published.
