Newly Released Video Shows Parents Pleading During Uvalde Shooting

On May 24, 2022, a tragic event unfolded at Rob Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where a gunman took the lives of 19 students and two teachers. Recently, a newly released body camera video has surfaced, revealing the desperate pleas of parents urging law enforcement to storm the school.

This video is part of a final set of documents that local authorities had kept hidden during a protracted legal struggle over public access, which has now come to light this week. In July, the Uvalde CISD board voted unanimously to make the records available after almost three years marked by sorrow and legal challenges.

In the footage, parents are heard frantically asking officers to take action just minutes after the horrific shooting committed by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, making it one of the deadliest school attacks in U.S. history.

One parent is heard asking in distress, “Whose class is he in?” while another cries out, “Come on, my daughter is in there!” The video playback captures a chaotic scene outside the school as parents plead with the police to act.

Amid the rising tension, a parent shouts, “You need to go in. My kids are in there… please!” It’s a visceral look at the desperation felt by those outside.

As the chaos unfolded, some officers appeared to hesitate outside, seemingly unsure how to proceed. Parents moved closer to the fence, urging the officers to confront the shooter.

Additionally, the video indicates confusion among law enforcement as they struggled to organize a response—some officers were seen standing in hallways instead of entering classrooms. A prior body camera clip from last year documented a tense 911 call made by a teacher inside the school.

In the lead-up to the shooting, Ramos had already taken a violent turn, fatally shooting his grandmother before heading to the school. The response from law enforcement has faced severe criticism, with accusations of a significant delay in action—around 400 officers waited more than 70 minutes before confronting the gunman.

The aftermath has prompted various state and local investigations into the police’s response, which has been largely condemned. Law enforcement’s reinforcements included approximately 150 U.S. Border Patrol agents and 91 state troopers, yet there were concerns regarding their effectiveness during that critical time.

As the community continues to grapple with the tragedy, the released footage serves as a painful reminder of the events that transpired on that fateful day.
