Shooting Incident in Brooklyn Involving NYPD

On Tuesday evening, NYPD officers intervened in a shootout in Brooklyn. The incident resulted in the death of a 22-year-old felon, who had only recently escaped a prior situation, according to authorities.

Officials reported that around 7:30 PM, officers witnessed the two suspects exchanging gunfire. They were both engaged in the shooting, which raised concerns about public safety.

“Tonight, our officers bravely confronted this dangerous scenario,” a spokesperson for Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, Frank Giordano, remarked at a press briefing held later that evening.

Quickly reacting, the officers exited their patrol car, drew their weapons, and engaged the suspect nearest to them. This suspect, identified as Edynesson Bauduy, had reportedly just fled from prison, officials said.

Officers confirmed that Bauduy sustained at least one gunshot wound and was taken to Kings County Hospital where he is currently stable. Additionally, both police officers involved were transported to local hospitals for evaluation.

Bauduy, known for his violent past, had been arrested for another shooting in Brooklyn back in 2021 when he was just 18 years old.

After the recent incident, he was set to appear in court after another arrest related to violent robbery. It’s noted that he had pled guilty to these crimes, receiving a concurrent sentence, and was released just two months ago, on June 10. Some might wonder—if he had faced consecutive sentences, would he still be on the streets today?

This situation highlights some flaws in the system, as Bauduy had previously evaded true accountability for his actions. “This is someone who has shown a blatant disregard for the law,” Giordano pointed out. “Our officers acted exactly as they are trained to do, stepping into a perilous situation.”

Meanwhile, the second suspect escaped and is currently at large, last seen heading towards Church Avenue, though their whereabouts remain unknown.

Investigators recovered one firearm along with several shell casings from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
