Trump to Honor 90th Anniversary of Social Security Act

Donald Trump is set to announce a presidential declaration on Thursday, commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act. In the declaration, he will highlight his administration’s efforts to enhance the program, particularly measures benefiting most seniors, allowing them to pay no taxes on their Social Security benefits.

The Social Security Act, which was enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression in 1935, aimed to establish a federal safety net for Americans facing unemployment, illness, disability, and the aging population.

According to a copy of the declaration obtained by Fox News Digital, Trump describes the law as “a monumental legislative achievement.”

“To this day, Social Security is rooted in simple promises. Those who have dedicated their careers to building our country deserve the support, stability, and relief that they once were granted,” the declaration reads. “Thanks to my administration’s efforts, Social Security is now more robust and resilient than ever.”

During Trump’s second term, Democrats are expected to challenge his approach to enhancing the program, arguing for a reduction in the workforce at the Social Security Agency and claiming that provisions in Republican legislation could negatively impact essential programs. Nevertheless, the administration counters these claims, emphasizing improvements in technology, reduced wait times for customer service, and progress in clearing any backlogs.

“Democrats are misrepresenting the facts about Social Security, but President Trump is unwavering in his commitment to safeguarding and fortifying this vital program that nearly 72 million Americans rely on,” the administration stated.

Critics argue that Trump’s policies could harm the program. However, the administration insists that improvements are significant, noting they have disbursed more than 3.1 million payments beyond initial projections, amounting to roughly $17 billion for eligible recipients.

Additionally, under Trump’s administration, the average wait times for Social Security services have dramatically improved. Phone response times have dropped from around 30 minutes to just six minutes, reflecting an 80% decrease in latency.

In the declaration, Trump also mentioned a recent law that allows “the majority of seniors receiving Social Security” to pay nothing for their benefits.

“This represents the largest tax credit for older Americans in our nation’s history,” he explained.

Furthermore, Trump’s administration is actively working to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse within the system, addressing issues related to improper payments to deceased individuals.

“On this 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, we recognize the countless contributions made by American seniors who have invested their time, talent, and resources in our nation’s future,” Trump stated in his declaration.

“This milestone emphasizes the need to enhance retirement systems, protect programs like Social Security and Medicare from fraud and misuse, and ensure that future generations of Americans receive the assistance they have earned.”
