A man from Washington, D.C. recorded an incident where a former Department of Justice employee engaged in a bizarre confrontation with federal agents over the weekend. According to the witness, Cortez Dargin, 28, the individual seemed primed to create chaos, even threatening to damage a government car while brandishing a sandwich.
The man in question, identified as Shawn Charles Dunn, 37, reportedly had quite the emotional outburst, which Dargin found both amusing and alarming.
“At first, there were lots of accusations. This guy crossed the street yelling, ‘These guys are fascists,'” Dargin recalled, chuckling at Dunn’s antics.
Dargin added that Dunn made a pointed effort to get their attention during the episode. “He was waving around the lunch meat,” he explained.
According to Dargin, Dunn approached a parked federal vehicle, asking, “What car did the federal government pull?” When Dargin replied that he didn’t know, Dunn promptly went over to the car, leading Dargin to worry about what might happen.
Dargin observed that Dunn appeared to be intoxicated, which, perhaps, was why he decided to capture the entire incident on video. “You were really drunk,” he recalled thinking, noting that Dunn would probably regret his actions later.
In a surprising turn, Dunn hurled a sub sandwich at one of the federal officers, striking him squarely in the chest. “Some of the officers couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculous situation,” Dargin noted, though he felt sympathy for the agent on the receiving end. “I mean, it’s like it was your first day on the job and you get sandwiches thrown at you,” he remarked, incredulous.
Dargin mentioned that the sandwich looked like a BMT, adding that Dunn seemed to enjoy banana peppers as well.
After the sandwich incident, Dunn quickly made his escape, vanishing down the street. “He just ran behind some buildings and disappeared,” Dargin described. He also noted how oddly Dunn moved, likening him to a small reptile. “No one has ever seen anyone move like that,” Dargin said in disbelief.
Despite his hasty getaway, Dunn was apprehended by police and subsequently charged with felony assault, leading to the loss of his job as an international affairs expert at the DOJ. “If you touch a law enforcement officer, we’ll come after you,” remarked Attorney General Pam Bondy in response to the incident.
