Ana Navarro Urges Gloria Gaynor to Decline Award from Trump-Hosted Event
Ana Navarro, co-host of “The View,” has called on music legend Gloria Gaynor to turn down an award linked to President Donald Trump. In a detailed Instagram post on Thursday, Navarro expressed her disappointment over Gaynor being chosen to receive an honor at an event hosted by Trump at the Kennedy Center.
Navarro began by praising Gaynor but quickly shifted gears, encouraging the famed singer to reject the recognition. She recalled meeting Gaynor years ago at a concert in Miami, where the singer gifted her a keychain featuring “I Will Survive” when pressed.
The announcement about Gaynor receiving the Kennedy Center honor came just yesterday. Navarro continued to voice her concerns, suggesting that Gaynor should reconsider her involvement in events linked with Trump.
“Women deserve all the accolades and recognition that come their way,” Navarro stated. “However, I hope she will not accept an award from a man who has been detrimental to women, people of color, and LGBTQ rights.” She emphasized that the LGBTQ community significantly contributed to Gaynor’s iconic song, making it an anthem.
Navarro further claimed that aligning with Trump would tarnish the honor’s significance. “Don’t do that, Gloria!” she insisted.
Earlier on August 13, Trump announced the list of celebrities, including Gaynor, slated for recognition at the upcoming Kennedy Center Honors in December. Other honorees include country music star George Strait, the rock band Kiss, and actors Sylvester Stallone and Michael Crawford.
As of now, Gaynor has yet to publicly respond to Navarro’s remarks. A representative for Gaynor stated that the singer was “overjoyed and honored” to receive the award. In a statement, Gaynor expressed her desire to foster inspiration through accepting this honor, linking it back to her iconic song’s legacy.
