Stephen A. Smith and LeBron James at Odds
It seems things didn’t wrap up on a positive note between Stephen A. Smith and LeBron James.
During a recent appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast, Smith revealed that he hasn’t had any communication with James and has no desire to engage with him again.
“It’s not a situation or anything,” Smith commented. “He doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him.”
These remarks reflect an ongoing feud between Smith and the 21-time All-Star, where they exchanged critiques during their various appearances on ESPN earlier this year.
Smith also hinted at some unnamed issues that arose “behind the scenes” between him and James.
“What I say is that people don’t know what happened behind the scenes,” he explained. “What they were told, who they were told. It’s a situation that has been manipulated to undermine me and my contemporaries.”
He further criticized the way James approached him on the “Pat McAfee Show,” which airs shortly after Smith’s own show, “First Take.”
“There are a lot of things I don’t say for a reason, and the last straw was when he came at me in a way that brought Bronnie into something that affected another family,” Smith said. “This happened right after my show, on the channel I work for, and it felt like a humiliation.”
In conclusion, Smith indicated that his future mentions of James will only occur in the context of basketball analysis.
“I’m not going to slander your employer or myself unnecessarily when it comes to him or anyone else,” he stated. “I’ll do my job and cover basketball games. And if I never speak to him again, that’s fine by me.”
