Pennsylvania Cancer Survivor Hits $2 Million Jackpot Playing Online Monopoly
In a surprising twist of fate, a breast cancer survivor from Pennsylvania, Nicole Walter, recently hit a jackpot worth over $2 million while playing an online version of Monopoly.
The 42-year-old grandmother of ten was playing on her phone during what was supposed to be a casual session with her fiancé. “I was on my phone, and he was on his. He said, ‘Hey, I like exclusive things, so let’s give it a go,'” Walter recalled.
Initially unsure about her win, she was left speechless when her screen went blank, revealing the staggering amount. “I was shocked. I didn’t say anything at first,” she admitted.
This significant win, amounting to $2,021,096.49, came as part of a subscription-based digital draw. Walter, who had recently undergone radiation therapy for cancer in 2023, has been playing the Pennsylvania Lottery since it launched its online platform in 2018, primarily drawn to its convenience.
“We really enjoy it—and this time, it truly paid off,” she added, reflecting on her mixed feelings of excitement and disbelief.
Aside from her lottery luck, Walter has a history of overcoming health challenges, as she also survived a heart attack. Her plans for the winnings revolve around her family and personal interests. She hopes to invest in her cherished farmhouse and create precious memories with her loved ones.
As Walter’s story illustrates, life can change in an instant. Officials highlighted the significance of her win for not just her but for the community of Warren County. Additionally, the game has contributed over $500 million to programs that support senior citizens across Pennsylvania, underscoring its broader impact.
