New Jersey Girl Scouts Leader Claims Firing Over LGBTQ+ Event
The head of a Girl Scouts chapter in New Jersey has alleged that she was dismissed from her role due to her reluctance to participate in an LGBTQ+ event during Pride Month.
Alexandra Bauer, a 45-year-old leader of the Bergen County Liberty Chapter, stated that she was informed of her termination during a phone call with two officials from the organization.
Bauer explained that the reasons given for her firing were vague, citing a supposed breach of the group’s code of conduct. She mentioned that her daughter was also removed from the scouts as a consequence of her dismissal.
She suspects the decision was connected to comments she made online in June.
“I reposted something and said, ‘To be clear, my army wouldn’t do this,'” Bauer recalled.
“I think that’s likely the reason. They didn’t specify, but I believe it was related to that since it was subsequently deleted from their site,” she added.
Bauer had been a leader for seven years, managing around 30 girls until her recent firing.
She expressed concern about what she sees as a shift towards a more progressive agenda within the Girl Scouts, including participation in events related to LGBTQ+ issues and Black Lives Matter.
“That’s not really what I thought Girl Scouts was about. We focus on young kids, and while I’ve seen changes over the years, I wasn’t going to impose my views on the group,” she said.
Her termination followed the deletion of a social media post in which she seemed to incite violence against local churches that displayed pride flags.
This post criticized a church’s pride flag display, which included colors to represent marginalized communities.
Responses to her comments included misconceptions about the pride flag representing “minor attractive people,” which she firmly denies.
One commentator even suggested that the situation could be handled with “gasoline and games,” which Bauer condemned while still standing by her original message.
Attempts to reach out to the Girl Scouts and the Northern New Jersey branch for further comments were made.
