Scottie Scheffler Wins BMW Championship with Stunning Chip
Scottie Scheffler added another trophy to his PGA Tour collection on Sunday, and he did it in dramatic fashion with a remarkable chip on the 17th hole. Competing at Caves Valley Golf Club, Scheffler triumphed over Scottish golfer Robert Macintyre, who finished three under par that day, ultimately taking home the BMW Championship with a two-shot lead at 15 under overall.
This marks Scheffler’s second-largest comeback victory in his career, largely thanks to a heart-stopping shot near the 17th green.
The par-3 hole presented a challenging lie in the thick rough, but Scheffler executed his shot perfectly as the ball flew over the green, rolling tantalizingly close to the hole. As the crowd watched intently, it seemed to lose momentum just before sinking into the cup, generating a wild reaction from the audience. This dramatic moment sealed his victory over Macintyre, who appeared visibly shaken by the turn of events.
Scheffler reflected on the shot, saying, “Part of me wanted to go for the pin, but it was tucked over to the left. I knew the par would be a strong score on that hole today. If you can make a hole-in-one like that chip, you’ve done well. It looked perfect as it was rolling.” Macintyre had entered the final day as the leader but faltered, recording three bogeys on the first five holes. Meanwhile, Scheffler surged ahead, securing the lead with a birdie on the seventh hole.
With this victory, which took place during the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Scheffler notched his fifth win of the season, marking the second year in which he has achieved at least five wins on the PGA Tour. Over the last four decades, only Tiger Woods has managed to achieve such a milestone.
In the 2025 season, Scheffler has already claimed victories in two major championships, including the British Open and the PGA Championship. Holding two Masters green jackets, he is now aiming for the U.S. Open Trophy to complete his career Grand Slam, a feat for which Rory McIlroy is notably famous after achieving it at Augusta National earlier this year.
Macintyre wrapped up the tournament at 13 under, while Maverick McNealy finished third at 11 under. Tommy Fleetwood and Sam Burns rounded out the top five, finishing at 10 under.
