Crash in Florida Involves Illegal Immigrant Truck Driver

The driver of a truck who is claimed to be an illegal immigrant has been charged in connection with a tragic crash in Florida that took the lives of three individuals. This incident occurred while he was passing through California in 2018, and he was apprehended by Border Patrol two days later.

Harjinder Singh, 28, is now facing deportation and three counts of murder. A statement released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) mentioned that his immigration case was still ongoing at the time of his arrest near San Isidro, California, on September 20, 2018.

Reports indicate that Singh was driving a commercial semi-truck when he attempted an illegal U-turn on the highway, leading to a collision with a jackknife and a minivan. Sadly, all three passengers in the minivan lost their lives, according to officials.

“Three innocent lives have been lost due to Gavin Newsom’s California DMV issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. This situation is unacceptable,” a DHS spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News.

Fox News Digital reached out to Newsom’s Office for a response, but there was no immediate reply.

The DHS stated that Singh was initially processed for a swift removal in 2018, but after expressing fears of returning to India, a valid concern confirmed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, he was released on a $5,000 immigration bond.

Singh claims he has no serious health issues and is not a victim of domestic violence or human trafficking in the U.S. DHS has determined that he poses a serious threat to public safety based on his criminal history.

“After careful review of all factors and records, Singh is regarded as a significant threat, warranting enforcement action due to the serious nature of his offenses,” the DHS statement noted.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, who have also issued ICE detainers for Singh.

Florida Highway Safety and Automobile Director Dave Kerner commented on the situation, noting, “The acts committed while operating a commercial vehicle are shocking and criminal.” He also emphasized that Singh would face consequences for the urder charges as well as immigration violations, asserting that he “cannot harm the lives of Floridians and visitors.” Kerner concluded by affirming that Singh would be deported following any state-related charges.
