NATO Chief Agrees with Trump's Criticism of the Alliance

NATO Executive Director Discusses Trump’s NATO Criticism

On Monday, in an appearance on “Ingraham’s Angle” on Fox News, NATO Executive Director Mark Latte expressed that he found President Donald Trump’s earlier critiques of intergovernmental organizations to be valid.

During his meeting with world leaders, including those from the European Union and NATO, Trump talked about possible strategies to conclude the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. While discussing this, Laura Ingraham questioned Latte about Trump’s perceived isolation in these discussions, referring to critics who allege he aims to weaken NATO.

“He was remarkable, absolutely remarkable,” Latte remarked. “His criticism of NATO was justified. He pointed out that the U.S. is contributing more to NATO’s defense than European nations.”

Latte noted that, “It’s crucial that Americans recognize this. One of Trump’s significant foreign policy achievements could be seen in the 5% commitment to defense spending from NATO members, including a crucial 3.5% for core defense during the NATO summit. This gesture is now aligning European and U.S. defense expenditures.”

In June, Trump urged NATO allies to boost their defense budgets after significant taxpayer dollars were used to support Ukraine during the Russia conflict. As part of an agreement among the 32 member nations, NATO plans to increase defense spending from 2% to 5% of GDP by 2035.

Latte continued, asserting that Trump enforced accountability within NATO, playing an instrumental role in facilitating dialogue between Ukraine and Russia. “He has always been a supporter of NATO but wished for European nations to contribute more. And he has succeeded in that regard,” Latte mentioned. “Today’s discussions featured friendly allies who show mutual respect and camaraderie.”

He added, “Without President Trump, the stalemate with Putin would likely remain unresolved. He was uniquely positioned to navigate this situation since February.”

Trump’s meeting with leaders, including Ukrainian President Voldy Mirzelensky, took place at the White House shortly after his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. Although this much-anticipated meeting didn’t culminate in an official agreement, both leaders indicated that negotiations are progressing positively.

In a recent Fox interview, Trump suggested that a formal meeting between Zelensky and Putin was expected, and he indicated a possibility of joining them.
