Rhode Island Aide Arrested Amid Suspected Intoxication
Devon Flanagan, a special aide in Rhode Island, was arrested last Thursday night outside the City Restaurant in Newport for allegedly being drunk and trespassing. Police took her into custody based on a report from the establishment.
Tim Rondeau, the communications director for Attorney General Peter F. Neronha, mentioned that the office is currently reviewing the situation. “We expect to wrap up our investigation in the next few days. However, we’re unable to provide further comments right now due to HR protocols,” he stated.
Flanagan has been with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office for seven years, specifically in the Appeals Unit of the criminal department. In footage from her arrest, she’s heard proclaiming, “You’ll regret this,” and insists, “I’m an AG,” seemingly trying to avoid being taken into custody.
Police were reportedly called to the restaurant due to concerns about an “unnecessary political party” event. Upon arrival, Flanagan asked officers to turn off their body cameras, stating that it was citizens’ demand. In response, officers requested Flanagan and her companion to leave the premises, indicating that they were not welcome.
Security expert Todd McGee pointed out that there are no Rhode Island regulations that require police to disable body cameras during arrests. He emphasized the necessity for strict adherence to protocol, noting that holding a specific title does not exempt someone from legal consequences.
