Ella Emov, who is the stepdaughter of former vice president Kamala Harris, recently shared with her followers on TikTok that she’s been facing “climate anxiety.” This admission came after she posted a video of herself with plastic bags just a day prior.
The 26-year-old model and designer expressed her feelings in a six-minute clip, discussing the burden of environmental issues. Yet, in a previous Instagram video, she was seen not only with a plastic bag in her bedroom but also outside a thrift store in Pasadena with another one.
This apparent inconsistency has drawn some negative comments online, with one follower calling her out for hypocrisy, particularly since Harris has previously advocated for a ban on single-use plastics.
In her TikTok post, Emov, under the username @smellaemhoff, said, “I think everything about the environment affects me deeply.” She mentioned how challenging it is to remain hopeful while striving for change amid such heavy feelings.
The day before her TikTok, Emov had shared another video showing her sitting on her bed with some vibrant threads and fabrics—some of which included plastic bags—while discussing her day.
Later, she filmed her visit to a popular California recycling store, where she interacted with various plastic items, and some of her followers praised her style while others criticized the plastic-heavy merchandise.
“Perhaps we shouldn’t endorse a store filled with excess plastic bins,” one follower remarked, while another expressed outrage, saying, “People like you are actually harming our country.”
This isn’t Emov’s first interaction with plastic, even though her stepmother once pushed to ban it. Back in 2019, Harris had declared that “plastic straws need to be banned,” but her stance has seemingly evolved over time.
In January, both Harris and her husband Doug Emov were spotted leaving a grocery store where their items were packed in plastic bags.
Harris is the stepmother to Doug Emov’s two children, Ella and Cole. They met on a blind date in 2013 and were married the following year when Ella was just 15. Recently, she has attracted attention for her political views and expressions.
Earlier this year, she mentioned feeling “a small trauma” about voting for socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary.
Ella Emov has yet to provide any comments on these recent events.
