The Colts’ choice to start Daniel Jones has sparked some dissatisfaction within Anthony Richardson’s camp.
Agent Deiric Jackson spoke with ESPN, expressing his discontent following Jones’ promotion to the starting quarterback position. “There’s a lot to unpack here,” he remarked.
Jackson indicated that Jones’ ascension was problematic, noting, “The earlier situation, particularly with Richardson, has affected the team’s trust.” He added that trust is currently quite fragile. “Anthony has made strides in the areas he needed to improve, and he had a solid camp,” Jackson continued.
Richardson’s journey has been anything but smooth since he was picked fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, marked by inconsistent performances and injuries. During his rookie season, he only appeared in four games before undergoing shoulder surgery that ended his season in October.
Last year, things didn’t improve dramatically; Richardson played 11 games, but there was a notable absence following his loss in Week 8 against the Texans. Yet, Jackson pointed out that Richardson’s contributions shouldn’t be overlooked. “When the team required a crucial play, it was Anthony who stepped up,” he stated.
In a more recent response, Richardson softened his tone, claiming there are no hard feelings towards the organization. “I just need to focus on my growth,” he mentioned. “I don’t want being a backup to hinder my development or prevent me from being the player I’m meant to be.”
As for Jones, he joined the Colts this offseason after being let go by the Giants last November. “He’s our starting quarterback,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen emphasized, expressing his intent to keep things straightforward.
