McKinney, Texas Tops Real Estate Rankings

In Texas, it seems everything is indeed larger—and maybe even better.

A recent report from Wallethub highlights the best real estate markets in America, and McKinney, Texas, stands out, topping the list. The city’s extensive housing options and vibrant job market in the North Dallas suburbs propelled it ahead of 299 other U.S. cities, including strong competitors from Texas, North Carolina, and California.

McKinney’s real estate strength is largely attributed to extensive construction that has occurred over the past decade. Wallethub indicates that the new homes built between 2010 and 2023 present buyers with a wealth of viable, long-term housing choices.

This rapidly growing suburb of Dallas boasts a median ranking of 74 among the surveyed cities and holds the 11th position for employment growth.

McKinney frequently shows up in real estate rankings. For instance, a recent analysis by RentCafe named it one of the top places to rent in booming suburbs.

Cary, North Carolina, secured the second spot, primarily due to its affordability. Located near Raleigh, it benefits from some of the lowest energy and maintenance costs in the country.

While Cary residents enjoy savings, they face rising home prices influenced by the post-Covid-19 demand. The city currently ranks 96th for affordability, but its low unemployment and strong job growth make it an attractive option.

Following Cary, Durham, North Carolina, ranks fourth in the real estate market.

As for the remaining spots in the top five, Irvine, California, and Richardson, Texas, round out the list.

In contrast, New York City’s real estate scene has dropped to 230th place this year. Its unique housing conditions have been reflected in dismal figures, marked by high median market days and rising home prices relative to income.
