Vance Meets National Guard in DC

On Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance engaged with National Guard soldiers at DC Union Station, emphasizing his ongoing support for their role in addressing crime in the nation’s capital.

While the military personnel and federal police appeared pleased with Vance’s visit, he was joined by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. Liberal protesters expressed their discontent with his presence, criticizing his vision for future governance in DC.

Some signs shouted messages like “f**king nazi,” “Healthcare, housing, climate justice!… Army from our city,” and “Get f**k from my city!”

In response, supporters reportedly countered with chants of “USA! USA! USA!”

Vance, during a brief encounter outside the Shake Shack at Union Station, pointed out a protestor, stating, “This is someone who thinks people don’t deserve law and order in their community.”

“This should be a monument to America’s greatness.”

The Secretary of Defense laughed off the situation, indicating a sense of normalcy as they continued their tour of what many consider to be relatively safer areas.

In his remarks, Vance noted that Union Station and many areas within the district have long endured troubling levels of crime.

Addressing the seriousness, he stated, “You have a vagrant, you have a drug addict, you have chronically homeless individuals, you have those who are mentally ill… and the violence they bring has been allowed to persist for too long.” He pointed to various alarming incidents, like the arrest of six young girls for allegedly assaulting a woman and a gun-related incident in the station’s parking garage.

Vance continued, “Union Station should be a symbol of America’s greatness. It shouldn’t be a place where parents hesitate to bring their children… because we’re failing to provide safety for those who genuinely need it in this city. Having political will could restore law and order to America’s public spaces.”

After voicing the need for renewed safety efforts, a reporter asked about the evidence supporting this narrative.

“Let’s free DC from the lawlessness.”

Vance replied, “What? Does DC have a terrible crime problem? Just look around. The evidence is clear, supported by Department of Justice and FBI statistics. Talk to residents.” He also adopted the slogan “free DC,” aimed at the protesters, reiterating the need to address crime in DC, noted for having one of the highest murder rates.

In a somewhat contradictory statement, he reflected on the protests, suggesting it seemed odd that those arguing for safety often hadn’t experienced danger themselves.
