Coco Gauff Makes Coaching Change Ahead of US Open

Coco Gauff is stirring things up as she prepares for the 2025 US Open in New York. Reports indicate that the American tennis sensation has parted ways with her coach, Matt Daly.

“I have nothing but positive things to say about Coco and I appreciated our time together,” Daly commented, though the reasons for the split remain unclear.

But, why would the 21-year-old decide to switch things up right before a major tournament? It could be connected to her serve, which has faced some challenges.

After a surprising first-round exit at Wimbledon, Gauff’s serve has become a noticeable concern. It’s worth mentioning that this was quite a contrast to her recent win at the French Open.

Now, she’s looking to work with Gavin MacMillan, who has a reputation for enhancing some of the best serves in women’s tennis. Notably, world number one Aryna Sabalenka has benefited from his expertise in this area. MacMillan was spotted at the Arthur Ashe Stadium recently, as Gauff faced off against Elina Svitolina.

ESPN’s Darren Cahill believes the collaboration between Gauff and MacMillan could be fruitful. “A lot of factors can align, making this a promising relationship,” he noted. MacMillan’s thorough approach and his experience across various sports, coupled with his use of modern technology and biomechanics, may provide Gauff with the edge she needs.

While Gauff has had a successful year—claiming the French Open—her inconsistent serve appears to be a pressing issue she wants to address before the tournament. Last year, she won the US Open but struggled to defend her title in 2024, losing in the fourth round.

Overall, Gauff seems determined to refine her game. As the US Open approaches, many are curious to see how this coaching change will impact her performance on the court.
