Queen Camilla has announced that the royal estate of Sandringham is currently facing a significant hornet problem, describing the situation as “terrifying.” This invasion has disrupted the daily activities at the King’s private property, impacting life as usual.
During her solo appearance at the Ebor Festival on August 21, where she inaugurated a new facility at York Racecourse, the 78-year-old Queen mentioned the challenges posed by the hornets. It seems that Sandringham isn’t merely suffering from wasps; her bees at her private residence in Wiltshire have also been swarming, adding to the annoyance.
This revelation follows a formal warning issued by King Charles III to visitors at Sandringham. A notice was posted on August 18, stating, “Please note that WASP activity is currently high in this area. Thank you.”
Camilla is one of the royal family’s beekeepers, and more on the royal bee situation includes Princess Kate Middleton, whose bee is located at Ammer Hall, near the gardens of Sandringham Estate. Interestingly, Meghan Markle has also dabbled in beekeeping, featuring it in her show “Love, Meghan.”
Unfortunately, the hornet invasion isn’t the sole issue facing the Sandringham Estate. King Charles has expressed concern over a potential shortage of pheasants, which could disrupt the royal shooting calendar during winter, a tradition that is apparently close to his heart.
British royal expert Hilary Fordwich recently commented on the situation, noting that the King feels frustrated and disappointed. This concern revolves not only around family traditions but also about how it reflects on the management of Sandringham.
As environmental challenges continue to mount, there seems to be a decline in the available bird population, which may disrupt traditional activities like the annual boxing day shoot.
