Elon Musk introduces AI-driven software company Macrohard

Shift in AI Development with Elon Musk’s New Venture

The AI development sector has always been intensely competitive. Up until now, however, most leading companies have shared one common trait: they are all run by people. But now, there’s a potential game-changer on the horizon—Elon Musk’s new initiative, Macrohard.

This name—cleverly playing on Microsoft—signals a shift as Macrohard is designed to be managed entirely by artificial intelligence. It poses a significant threat to the traditional structure of software companies.

On Friday, Musk shared details about this venture on X, stating that it will help establish a software company that operates purely through AI. He noted that since companies like Microsoft focus on software without producing physical hardware, AI should be able to replicate those functions flawlessly.

One user on X called this a transformative leap for AI. The user commented, “If successful, Macrohard won’t just compete with Microsoft; it will redefine the necessity of software firms as human-run entities.” They continued, “It’s as if ‘Macrohard’ signifies the arrival of the first AI-native megacorp, potentially altering our entire concept of software companies.”

According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, a trademark application for Macrohard was filed on August 1, 2025. It’s currently awaiting examination, but it meets initial criteria. The review process, however, could be lengthy—up to 13 months.

The trademark application was submitted recently, although Musk seems to have been mulling over that name for quite some time; back in 2021, he tweeted, “Macrohard > Microsoft.”

Microsoft has yet to respond to any inquiries regarding this new development.
