Republican National Committee Welcomes New Chair from Florida
With many influential politicians hailing from Florida, it’s not surprising that the new chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) is also from the Sunshine State.
Joe Gruters, a long-time supporter of President Donald Trump in Florida, was elected unanimously as the RNC chair during a summer meeting of the Nationalist Party Committee. Gruters serves as a Florida Senator and has previously held the role of treasurer for the committee, although he stepped down from that position upon his election as chairman.
Gruters is closely linked to another Floridian in the White House, Susie Wills, who co-managed Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. He takes over from former chairman Michael Whatley.
In a social media post after Gruters was elected, Trump expressed his strong support, noting that Gruters played a significant role in achieving a “massive and historic victory” for the party in Florida.
Gluters, who has previously served as chairman of the Florida Republican Party, was co-chair of Trump’s campaign in the state during the 2016 election. His rise as the RNC chair further emphasizes Trump’s control over the Nationalist Party committee.
During an exclusive interview, Gruters emphasized that, “This is the president’s party. This is the president’s vision.” He also highlighted that the party aims to defend the House and Senate in the upcoming midterm elections, expressing confidence in future victories.
Interestingly, Gruters has had some disagreements with Florida’s two-term Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, especially during the race for the 2024 Republican nomination, where he sided with Trump over DeSantis.
