A tactical team of murder detectives, alongside California Sheriff’s deputies, apprehended the parents of a boy who was allegedly lured on Friday.
Jake and Rebecca Halo were arrested on murder charges at their home in Cabazon. This came after Rebecca reportedly accused her seven-month-old son, Emmanuel, during an incident involving a sports goods store in Yucaipa, located about 70 miles west of Los Angeles.
The head murder detective for the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department now believes that the alleged lure never occurred and suspects that the child is deceased.
As per a statement released by the sheriff’s department on Friday:
Numerous interviews were conducted, search warrants obtained, and digital evidence collected during prior investigations. Based on this evidence, investigators established that no lure occurred in Yucaipa. Emmanuel is deceased, and a search is believed to be underway for his body.
“These arrests show important progress, but our primary focus is on finding Emmanuel,” the statement continued, urging anyone with additional information about the missing child to reach out to the department.
Video released by authorities shows the sheriff’s department arriving at the couple’s home in tactical gear, along with armored vehicles and cruisers.
Rebecca Halo, age 41, was the first to be taken into custody, followed soon after by her 32-year-old husband, Jake.
Both have been charged with murder and are currently held at Riverside County Jail without bail. “No other arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing,” authorities confirmed.
The case of the missing child has garnered attention across the nation after the mother initially told law enforcement that she lost consciousness outside the sports store while changing her son’s diaper. Upon regaining consciousness, she stated that her son was missing.
However, as investigators probed deeper, the couple, who had previously engaged with authorities in efforts to find their son, stopped cooperating.
“The circumstances of this case are tragic, and we will persist in our search for Emmanuel,” Sheriff Shannon Dikas remarked, expressing gratitude to other involved departments. “We trust that our judicial system will hold the parents accountable.”
