South Korean Leader Supports Construction of Trump Tower in North Korea After Praising President's Foreign Policy

Lee Jae Myung Commends Trump on Foreign Policy

During a visit to the Oval Office, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed admiration for President Donald Trump’s approach to foreign policy, even expressing a desire to develop a Trump Tower in South Korea.

Lee conveyed his belief that Trump holds a unique position among world leaders in fostering peace between North and South Korea. Trump mentioned his ambition to usher in a “new era of peace” for the Korean Peninsula, signaling plans to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un regarding a “suitable future.”

“Out of many global leaders, you’re the only one who has led to such outcomes. With the Korean Peninsula being the last divided nation in the world, I hope you can assist in fostering peace here,” Lee remarked.

Lee further noted that under former President Joe Biden, North Korea advanced its “nuclear and missile capabilities,” suggesting that Trump’s tenure was marked by relative peace on the peninsula. “The situation was stable during your first term,” he said. “But during the absence of your leadership, North Korea escalated its nuclear ambitions.” He implied that if he were in charge, such advancements wouldn’t have occurred.

In their first face-to-face meeting, Lee, who took office in June, and Trump, who previously met North Korean leadership in Singapore back in June 2018, discussed these pressing concerns. Trump had subsequent summits with Kim in March and June 2019, including a visit to the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas.
