Texans’ Joe Mixon Out for First Four Games

The Houston Texans have decided not to activate running back Joe Mixon from their non-football injury list before the Tuesday deadline at 4 PM. As a result, he will miss the first four games of the season.

In a recent post, the Texans announced, “We will officially move RB Joe Mixon from active/non-football injury list to reserve/football injury list.”

Mixon is dealing with an ankle injury he sustained during the offseason. This was supposed to be a big year for him; at 29, he had a successful 2024 season with the Texans, rushing for 1,016 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns, which earned him Pro Bowl honors.

While Mixon is sidelined, the Texans are looking for backup plans. They signed veteran Nick Chubb, who spent seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns. At 30, Chubb faced a tough season last year due to an injury that limited him to just eight games, where he rushed for 332 yards with three touchdowns.

Chubb’s recovery from a serious leg injury suffered early in the 2023 season has been noted. Before that setback, he was coming off a strong 2022 season, in which he gained 1,525 rushing yards and reached the Pro Bowl for the fourth time.

The Texans are also preparing for the future by investing in rookie talent. They selected Quinten Joyner from USC in the draft, where he impressed by recording 1,133 rushing yards and nine touchdowns last season.

With May’s decision, Houston may need to rely on Chubb and Joyner to fill the gap left by Mixon’s absence. It’s a challenging situation, but the team seems to be approaching it strategically.
