Former national security adviser John Bolton criticized President Trump’s approach to Ukraine, describing it as “inconsistent” in a recent opinion piece.
Bolton remarked, “President Trump’s policy towards Ukraine has become even less coherent since last Friday when law enforcement executed a search warrant at my residence and office.” His commentary, titled “Trump’s Inconsistent Ukraine Strategy,” appeared in The Washington Examiner.
He noted that, amid chaos and rushed decisions, communication among Ukraine, Russia, various European nations, and the U.S. has deteriorated, leading to difficulties in Trump’s negotiations, which he suggested could be part of a broader push for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Last Friday, federal agents conducted a search at Bolton’s home, with the FBI confirming “court-sanctioned law enforcement activities” in Maryland.
Having previously served in Trump’s administration, Bolton has become an outspoken critic of the former president.
He mentioned that the administration attempts to mask its confusion with social media, drawing parallels between President Trump’s actions and those of former President Richard Nixon, who famously resigned amid controversy.
Since taking office, Trump has claimed efforts to end the war in Ukraine, but there’s been little success. Recently, he met with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington, DC.
In a Sunday interview, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed that while Ukraine “has a right to exist,” he issued caveats regarding territorial conflicts. He stated, “Ukraine can exist only if they relinquish certain populations,” referring to groups they label as “terrorists” and discussing referendums in areas of Donbas, which aligned themselves with Russian influence after a governmental shift.
