Illinois man reportedly dosed pregnant girlfriend with abortion pills to induce miscarriage

Authorities in Illinois have charged a man with administering abortion pills to his pregnant girlfriend, allegedly resulting in a miscarriage.

Emerson Evans, 31, from Regular City, was arrested after police responded to a medical emergency at his girlfriend’s residence in Bloomington around 7 PM on Friday. Upon their arrival, they found the woman in distress.

Investigators discovered that Evans had given her abortion pills that night, allegedly to induce the abortion without her consent.

The woman, who was seven weeks pregnant, reportedly experienced complications leading to a miscarriage. It hasn’t been confirmed if Evans is the father of the child.

According to reports, he inserted four Mifepristone pills into her vagina, which is considered an improper method for taking the medication that is typically ingested orally as the first step in a medical abortion.

Police stated that due to the drug allegations, the woman lost her pregnancy, resulting in Evans facing two counts of intentional murder of the unborn child.

Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simmington expressed sadness over the situation, hoping that the mother receives necessary support and recovery. “We are once again saddened by the alleged criminal conduct that harmed others,” he said.

At a court hearing, Judge Amy McFarland remarked on the seriousness of the charges, noting that the number of pills indicated either a lack of knowledge or consent. She emphasized that Evans attempted to impose his beliefs about the pregnancy without her agreement, which ultimately led to a loss of life.

Illinois law permits abortion, but charges of intentional murder concerning a fetus are severe, carrying potential sentences of at least 20 years for each count, according to criminal justice experts.

This case surfaces alongside a recent federal lawsuit in which a Texas woman alleged that a U.S. Marine spiked her hot chocolate with abortion pills while she was pregnant.

As of now, Evans’ legal representatives have not provided comments on the matter.
