White liberal denial confronts black reality

White liberal denial confronts black reality

I can relate to living in areas governed by the Democratic Party. I spent time on the south side of Chicago and now reside in Southeast DC, witnessing crime firsthand and feeling the accompanying fear.

As I walked through neighborhoods, where parents had to instruct their kids to drop to the ground at the sound of gunshots, I witnessed sections flooded with drugs. Police hesitated to respond, knowing the system wouldn’t support them. For years, Democrats managing these cities chalked things up to election seasons and continued feigning ignorance until the cameras came out.

The harsh reality is that Democrats have failed in places like DC, Chicago, and New York, and this pattern persists nationwide.

Every four years, they appear with cameras, shaking hands and making promises in front of boarded-up storefronts, pledging to implement change. Then, they retreat to safer areas—leaving behind the same violence, fear, and despair for the communities they claim to represent.

This isn’t leadership; it feels more like exploitation. As a Black man who previously worked for the Democratic Party, I’ve been privy to campaign strategies. I’ve heard the cynical directives, like making a stop at a barbershop or visiting a local church. The agenda is clear: deliver a few lines about “rebuilding the community,” and then disappear once the cameras are gone.

When President Trump asserts his right to send federal law enforcement and the National Guard to cities incapable of protecting their citizens, those who once stayed silent suddenly find their voices. They rant about “authoritarianism” and claim the crime is “under control.”

Such claims are dishonest and insulting. They demonstrate a lack of concern for lost lives. The focus is often on appearances rather than genuine efforts to address the issues at hand.

The DC Liberal Wave Chart proclaims that violent crime is down, yet the city has been accused of manipulating data to present a safer facade. Meanwhile, whistleblowers confirm what residents already know: violent crime statistics have been downplayed or misrepresented to maintain the illusion of safety. This isn’t merely speculation; a federal investigation is underway.

Still, Democrats maintain that Trump’s actions aren’t necessary, labeling crime as “exaggerated” and claiming cities are “safe.” Tell that to families afraid to let their children roam freely. Tell that to small business owners. Speak to a mother in Anacostia who’s mourning her children while city officials spin data for press coverage.

Chicago tells a similar tale. Democrats have been in control for decades, and yet violence and poverty still grip the South and West sides of the city. Having lived there, I can attest: polite white liberals residing in calm neighborhoods and affluent suburbs seem disinterested. They prefer to fuel the narrative that they are fighting for the less fortunate, even if neighborhoods are used as political stages.

Weekly, Chicagoans seek help at city council meetings only to be ignored by Democrats. Grassroots movements are emerging as people turn away from traditional support.

In New York, it’s not much different. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s district has experienced a staggering 70% rise in major crimes since her tenure began in 2019. Residents echo a familiar sentiment seen across Democrat-run cities: their leaders don’t truly care. They show up for photo ops and vanish when real danger looms.

Donald Trump recognized this reality and made it a part of his campaign. He visited neighborhoods and directly addressed residents who felt ignored. This resonated, which is why millions of Black voters supported him in 2024, signaling a significant shift in political allegiance. It’s a wake-up call for Democrats as their hold on minority voters begins to wane.

Those liberal voices on cable news, critiquing Trump’s law-and-order messaging, don’t live in high-crime areas. They’re not the ones whose children attend schools facing gang activity. They don’t frequent corner stores plagued by frequent robberies, nor do they walk the streets of DC, Chicago, or the Bronx. They can afford the luxury of believing that crime is “under control.” They dismiss the idea that more gun laws could help, ignoring the reality that criminals don’t abide by new legislation. They can afford to live elsewhere, sustaining the notion that everything is just fine.

But crime isn’t under control. It never was. The people in these communities will continue to suffer until their predicament is acknowledged and addressed. Trump understands this; I’m not certain that Democrats ever have.

The truth is evident. Democrats have failed the citizens in DC, Chicago, New York, and beyond. They’ve let down Black voters and working-class individuals, all while their support dwindles to record lows. More and more voters are looking elsewhere.

The future won’t belong to a party in denial and decline—it belongs to those demanding safety, accountability, and tangible change.

Donald Trump embodies that change, while Democrats merely offer empty promises.
