Controversy at Vanity Fair Over Potential Melania Trump Cover

Reports are surfacing about turmoil at Vanity Fair regarding a potential cover featuring First Lady Melania Trump. Apparently, some staff members have expressed discontent—some even threatening to leave if she ends up on the magazine’s front page.

According to a piece in the Daily Mail, several anonymous staffers indicated that if global editorial director Mark Guiducci proceeds with his idea of showcasing Melania, chaos may ensue among the magazine’s employees.

“I’m out the motherf—ing door, and half my team is coming with me,” one editor reportedly said.

This isn’t just talk; past instances show that Vanity Fair has avoided featuring Melania. During her husband’s presidency, the magazine highlighted other First Ladies, including Michelle Obama and Jill Biden. Michelle was even on the cover twice during Obama’s tenure, while Jill has appeared once during President Biden’s term.

Although Melania graced the cover of Vanity Fair Mexico back in 2017, she was also part of a Trendy issue back in 2005, when Donald Trump was mostly known for his real estate ventures and the hit reality show, “The Apprentice.”

Some critics within the magazine are framing their objections as political. They argue that featuring her would somehow normalize the current political climate.

“We are not normalizing this tyranny and his wife,” one employee stated. “We’re going to support what’s right.”

There are fears that standing against the cover decision could jeopardize careers, with many predicting that several writers might follow suit in resigning.

“If that means I have to bag groceries at Trader Joe’s, I’ll do it,” the editor asserted. “If Melania is put on the cover, half of us will leave, I assure you.”

However, not all staff are on board with the idea of a mass walkout. One employee mentioned that the uproar might turn out to be short-lived and that the situation could be more dramatic than genuine concern.

“It’s all a story. Sure, there will be protests and complaints if she’s on the cover, but I doubt anyone will actually quit such a prestigious job,” they remarked.

They added, “Ultimately, this is Mark’s decision. He alone faces the consequences of that choice.”
