Fatal Accident Involving Illegal Immigrant Raises Concerns

In a tragic incident in Florida, an illegal immigrant has been linked to the deaths of three people after making an illegal U-turn. This individual, identified as Harjinder Singh, has reportedly failed both the English Proficiency (ELP) test and the road sign test—requirements mandated for those holding a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Singh, aged 28, has been charged following the accident on August 12, but is yet to be convicted. He faces multiple charges, including three counts of vehicle murder and manslaughter.

Dash cam footage captured Singh executing the illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike, blocking all northbound lanes and subsequently colliding with a minivan. The crash was devastating, resulting in three fatalities:

  • Faniola Joseph, 37, from Pompano Beach.
  • Harvey Dufrein, 30, from Florida City.
  • Rodrig Doe, 54, from Miami.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Singh and his passengers sustained injuries in the collision, while the minivan passengers tragically lost their lives beneath the trailer.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Singh, originally from India, entered the U.S. illegally in 2018. He subsequently acquired a commercial driver’s license in California and Washington. His first application for a work permit was denied during the Trump administration but was approved in 2021 under Biden’s leadership, which has drawn criticism.

Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin commented, “Three innocent people were killed in Florida as Gavin Newsom’s California DMV issued commercial driver’s licenses to illegal foreigners.” She demanded accountability, questioning how many lives must be lost before actions are taken for public safety.

In response, Governor Newsom has shifted the blame to the Trump administration, asserting that Singh met the federal and state immigration requirements to obtain his work permit.

Newsom’s office stated, “The federal government confirmed that this guy meets requirements.” He criticized the claims against him, hinting at misinformation from the previous administration.

McLaughlin refuted these claims, stating Singh was indeed in the U.S. illegally at the time of the incident, with his work permit only approved under Biden.

Following the accident, U.S. Transport Secretary Sean Duffy declared an investigation by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Duffy emphasized, “If the state had followed the rules, this driver would not have been behind the wheel, and three precious lives would still be with us.” He indicated that there were preventable failures contributing to this tragedy.

Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that Singh failed the English proficiency assessment, answering only two of twelve verbal questions correctly and identifying just one of four traffic signs accurately.

In light of these issues, Duffy has threatened to cut federal funding to the states examined in the investigation, underscoring the need for compliance with safety regulations.

“This is to keep the roads safe for everyone,” he stated, stressing the importance of adhering to regulations to prevent further tragedies.
