Enhanced Games initiates an $800 million lawsuit alleging a boycott of the event

Enhanced Games Files Lawsuit Against Swimming Associations

Enhanced Games, an event mimicking the Olympics but without drug testing, is taking legal action against World Swimming, USA Swimming, and the World Anti-Doping Agency, claiming these organizations are pushing athletes to avoid participating in their event. The lawsuit seeks $800 million.

The allegations stem from regulations introduced by World Aquatics in June, which state that swimmers and officials involved in or endorsing the Enhanced Games will face bans from the sport.

Hussain al-Musalam, president of World Aquatics, previously stated, “People who have enabled doped sports are not welcome at the world’s aquatics or our events.”

The ordinance’s intent, as described, is to uphold the Olympic movement’s principles, particularly its global doping code. It aims to maintain the integrity of aquatic sports and safeguard athletes’ well-being. Yet, there’s a growing perception that the ordinance serves as a form of control over elite swimmers and their support teams, with threats of lifetime bans hanging over them.

Critics of World Aquatics view Ordinance 10 as a disguised effort to strengthen the sport’s hold over athletes. There’s a notable hypocrisy in framing it as a health and safety measure when, as some assert, performance-enhancing substances are widely tolerated within the Olympic framework.

One prominent critic, D’Souza, has expressed ongoing concerns about the Olympic Committee’s and governing bodies’ stance on athlete health versus corporate sponsorship influences. He highlights that the long-lasting sponsorships of brands like Coca-Cola and McDonald’s contradict any claims of prioritizing athlete safety.

The Enhanced Games are set to occur in Las Vegas next May, with reports suggesting potential rewards of up to $1 million for competitors. This event could redefine the landscape of athletic competition, especially in light of the current controversies surrounding traditional Olympic standards.
