DC Mayor Acknowledges Impact of Trump’s Crime-Fighting Efforts
Washington, DC’s Mayor Muriel Bowser has recognized that Donald Trump’s initiatives aimed at reducing crime in the city have been effective. She indicated, “We know there are fewer gun crimes, fewer murders, and there are extreme decreases in carjacking.”
Bowser participated in a briefing where she presented a chart illustrating the increased efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), supported by various federal agencies like the FBI and DEA. She stated, “We are very grateful for the surge in executives that have strengthened what MPD can do in this city.”
She highlighted a notable statistic, mentioning a significant 87% reduction in carjackings within a 20-day period during a federal surge last year. Bowser noted that the presence of more federal law enforcement has likely helped address the issue of illegal guns in the area, contributing to enhanced accountability within the system.
Additionally, Bowser recently spoke with Trump, although she chose not to share specific details about their conversation. She described the meeting as “courageous,” referencing a previous meeting post-election where they aligned on the district’s priorities. Bowser observed that Trump’s understanding of the city had grown since his initial time in office.
When questioned about whether Trump would maintain the surge efforts beyond thirty days, she admitted, “That wasn’t something I had discussed with the President.”
It seems Trump’s approaches might indeed be making a difference.
