Mark Teixeira Launches Congressional Campaign
Mark “Tex” Teixeira, a former MLB first baseman and World Series champion, announced on Thursday his intention to run for Texas’ 21st Congressional District.
In a post on X, Teixeira expressed his commitment to “defend the president” and support issues like family and personal freedom. This announcement comes shortly after Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy revealed he would not seek re-election in what is considered a solid Republican seat.
Teixeira stated in a social media message, “As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I stand for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great. Teamwork is essential to win.” He emphasized his readiness to support President Trump’s agenda and protect the freedoms of Texans.

Throughout his 14-year MLB career, Teixeira achieved three All-Star selections, five gold gloves, and three silver sluggers, culminating in a World Series Championship with the Yankees in 2009.
He hit a total of 409 home runs during his MLB tenure before retiring after the 2016 season.
Additionally, Kyle Sinclair, Vice-Chair of the Bexar County GOP, mentioned that he is considering a run in the 21st Congressional District as of August 22, according to the Texas Tribune.
