Israeli Special Forces Recover Remains of 2 Hostages

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) announced the recovery of two Israeli hostages’ bodies from Gaza, taken by Hamas since October 7, 2023, according to a statement released on Friday.

In the statement, the IDF noted:

The body of Ilan Weiss was retrieved from the Gaza Strip during an IDF operation, but details regarding another deceased hostage have yet to be disclosed.

This intricate rescue mission involved the IDF Southern Command, the ISA from the IDF Intelligence Bureau, and various special forces. The operation was facilitated by precise intelligence gathered from the Hostage and Missing Headquarters and the ISA.

Ilan Weiss, 55, a resident of Kibbutz Be’eri, was reportedly killed after being taken from his home by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023. His wife, Siri, and daughter, Noga, were previously released as part of an earlier hostage arrangement in November 2023.

Following identification at the National Center for Forensic Medicine with cooperation from the Israeli police, his family and the Be’eri community were informed.

The identification process for additional hostages remains ongoing at the National Center for Forensic Medicine, with families being notified as developments occur.

The IDF and ISA are committed to continuing their efforts to assist the families and secure the release of all remaining hostages.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conveyed his condolences to the affected families, stating, “Alongside all the citizens of Israel, my wife and I share in this profound sadness.”

He further expressed gratitude for the successful efforts and bravery of the military commanders and personnel involved.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog urged the international community to act with moral clarity, stressing the need for the immediate release of all hostages, allowing them to return home and embrace their families with dignity.

Currently, 48 hostages are reported to be held in Gaza, with 20 believed to still be alive.
