Vance Criticizes Politico Reporter for Deep State Accusation

Vice President JD Vance criticized political diplomacy correspondent Felicia Schwartz, accusing her of “journalist misconduct.” In her recent article, Schwartz quoted various anonymous sources who voiced concerns over Steve Witkov’s management of peace negotiations with Russia. Notably, critical quotes from Vance and other prominent figures, like Secretary Marco Rubio and Jared Kushner, were omitted.

Vance expressed his frustration on X, labeling Schwartz as part of a “foreign influence operation” designed to undermine the administration. He pointed out that the article failed to include his full statement and other relevant comments, focusing instead on anonymous attacks against Witkov. “This is more than just bad journalism,” he remarked, adding that the critics were lurking in the shadows.

Neither Politico nor Schwartz responded to a request for comment.

Vance defended Witkov, asserting that he has made significant strides in negotiations aimed at stopping the turmoil in Ukraine. He emphasized that Witkov’s experience and ability to foster trust among key leaders is crucial. Schwartz’s article also downplayed quotes from UK National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell, who had praised Witkov’s unique approach to diplomacy.

Witkov’s critics were described by Vance as relying on vague references to his alleged shortcomings, claiming he struggles to multitask and consult allies effectively. Schwartz’s report cited unnamed individuals who suggested that the Russians felt Witkov was miscommunicating with them, making them uneasy about his grasp of President Putin’s intentions.

Vance remarked that Schwartz’s sources seemed to have their own motives for speaking out at this particular moment, suggesting they aimed to disrupt peace efforts. He raised questions about Schwartz’s integrity, suggesting she either naively amplified their agenda or was complicit in downplaying U.S. peace initiatives.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt also weighed in, asserting that Schwartz was misused by those promoting a clear agenda.
