Deion Sanders Talks Surprising Game Day Scent

Deion Sanders, the head coach of Colorado, is always prepared for game day, yet certain aromas at home games still catch him off guard.

When asked about unexpected experiences at Folsom Field, Sanders, 58, didn’t hold back. “The smell of weeds in the second quarter surprises me every game,” he shared in an interview. “It’s like, wow, it’s that ‘light-up’ quarter, you know?”

He elaborated that it occurs during a specific moment in the game. “I’m serious, there’s a TV timeout, and I always think, ‘What’s going on?’ It’s new for me because, honestly, I’ve never encountered this before,” Sanders said.

In his third season as head coach, Sanders has led the Buffaloes to a 7-5 record at home over his first two years. Last year, the team went 2-4 at home, but this season saw improvement, finishing 5-1. Notably, Sanders is navigating this year without Travis Hunter, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, and his son, Shadur Sanders.

This week, Colorado will kick off its season at home against Georgia Tech at 8 pm on Friday. While the roster may have changed, one thing seems sure: those second-quarter scents are here to stay.
