DC Worker Fired and Charged After Sandwich Incident
Shawn Charles Dunn, a Justice Department employee, was recently let go after allegations surfaced that he threw sandwiches at a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent. Now, he faces misdemeanor charges related to the incident.
Initially, Dunn had faced felony charges, but a grand jury didn’t find enough evidence to support those accusations. U.S. Attorney for Columbia, Johnny Pierro, commented that this was disappointing, saying, “I will continue to pursue all the paths available to hold offenders liable.” He expressed frustration over the grand jury’s decision not to match the felony charges with a true bill.
Piro remarked that Dunn is now facing prosecution for misdemeanors and stressed the need for an end to chaos in the district. There is footage showing someone fleeing the scene after allegedly throwing an item at an officer.
The incident was described in a statement where it was noted that Dunn was seen confronting CBP agent Gregory Learmore, yelling, “I don’t want you in my city!” as he hurled a sandwich.
During processing at a Metropolitan Police station, an officer confirmed that Dunn admitted to throwing the sandwich at Learmore, illustrating a clear escalation in behavior.
