Unexpected Proposal at the US Open
Love typically takes a backseat in the midst of tennis matches, but a surprising moment unfolded during a recent US Open match on Friday night.
While watching Alina Sabalenka’s win against Leila Fernandez in the third round, fans in the stands saw a heartfelt proposal. It seems that, well, the atmosphere just lent itself to love that evening.
“I think this is the first time someone has proposed during my match,” Sabalenka commented afterward. “It was a really sweet moment, and honestly, I was just trying to keep my focus. But it was just… so nice. I’m happy for them.”
As the scene unfolded, spectators rallied around as the man got down on one knee, ring in hand. Everyone seemed to hold their breath in anticipation, almost like cheering on a pivotal point in the match.
And then, she said “Yes.”
Sabalenka, who won the match with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (2), expressed well wishes for the couple. “I hope they have a fantastic marriage,” she added. Naturally, her victory will be followed by a match against Christina Butcher in the next round.
In moments like this, it really is charming how, amidst the fierce competition, love can find a way to shine.
