Dave Portnoy Sparks Buzz at Ohio State Football Game
On Saturday, Dave Portnoy made an appearance at Ohio State Football’s home game, creating quite a stir among fans. The founder of Barstool Sports, an alumnus of the University of Michigan, has been known for his ardent support of the Wolverines, especially their soccer team. This time, he showed up in Columbus as OSU faced off against Texas, the number one ranked team—perfect for some good-natured trolling of Buckeye supporters.
Earlier in the week, Portnoy joked about being “banned” from the iconic Horseshoe stadium, perhaps due to his unwavering allegiance to maize and blue. Surprisingly, Ohio State officials did not impose a ban.
As expected, Portnoy faced a chorus of boos from the Ohio faithful, but he took it in stride. “They can boo me all they want. But what if they lose to Michigan again this year? [Head coach Ryan Day] might be out of a job. There’s a reason I’m not feeling the pressure,” he teased, adding that Michigan’s dominance had seemingly rattled the Buckeyes.
This matchup, which saw Michigan triumph over Ohio State for the fourth year in a row, has sparked heated debates in the past, especially after last season’s infamous brawl. Although Michigan pulled off a crucial win, the loss didn’t seem to weigh too heavily on Ohio State fans, particularly since they had just won the national championship.
As the Wolverines and Portnoy prepared to kick off their season at 7:30 PM ET, it’s clear that tensions were running high among OSU supporters, who were less than thrilled with Portnoy’s antics aimed at disrupting their opener.
