Tragic School Shooting Incident in Minneapolis

A fifth grader, whose story of resilience gripped the internet last week after a shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, left the scene with a bullet fragment around his neck, thanks to his quick-thinking peers.

Ten-year-old Weston Halsne was attending a morning mass last Wednesday when gunfire erupted, with more than 100 rounds shattering the stained glass windows of the school.

In the chaos, Weston instinctively dove under a bench, as he had practiced in lockdown drills, with his friend Victor shielding him. Victor was shot but fortunately survived.

After the gunman concluded his violent spree by turning the weapon on himself, Weston shared his experience with reporters.

“I was like two seats away from the stained glass window, so the shot was really close to me,” he recounted.

“I thought it was like I had gunpowder around my neck,” he added, not realizing the gravity of his injury.

Doctors later revealed that Weston had a bullet fragment lodged dangerously near his neck, marking his survival as a genuine “miracle.”

“If that fragment had moved even a little further, he could have died,” commented Grand Halsne, Weston’s father.

Weston and his family are now coordinating with medical professionals to schedule surgery to remove the fragment. Despite the traumatic experience, he is expected to recover physically, although his father remains vigilant.

Yet, like many survivors, Weston is grappling with the mental aftermath of the incident. Unexpected loud noises now trigger fears, a reminder of the chaos he witnessed, including the tragic loss of his classmates.

Two students, ten-year-old Harper Moysky and eight-year-old Fletcher Merkel, lost their lives during the rampage, perpetrated by the gunman, Robin Westman.

The shooter was discovered deceased, dressed in black tactical gear and armed with three different firearms, including semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, which unfortunately jammed during the attack.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the shooting, as they seek answers and justice for the victims and their families.
