Maxine Waters Calls for 25th Amendment on Trump

Representative Maxine Waters is advocating for the invocation of the 25th Amendment regarding President Donald Trump, suggesting there may be deeper issues at play. During her recent appearance on MSNBC’s “The Weeknight,” Waters expressed her concerns about Trump’s fitness for the presidency after he dismissed Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors.

“It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to assess his unfitness. Something is wrong with this president,” Waters stated. She highlighted the urgency, emphasizing the potential danger to the nation and its democracy. “This is one of the most destructive actions this president could take,” she noted.

Trump removed Cook from her position on Monday, claiming she misrepresented mortgage information. Cook has since sued him, arguing that her firing did not meet the legal criteria for dismissal and has asked for a restraining order to retain her role.

Waters added, “This could destabilize the entire economy with significant effects on Wall Street and interest rates. It also raises concerns about the president’s financial decision-making that might benefit him personally.” She recommended immediate action, suggesting that waiting for court intervention is not a viable option.

MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend sought insights from Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz regarding Waters’ comments.

“It’s striking to hear Congresswoman Waters call for the 25th Amendment. But presidents have been impeached for far less,” Sanders-Townsend remarked.

Wasserman Schultz indicated that Trump may actually be targeting Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell instead of Cook.

“Trump would prefer to remove Jerome Powell, but knows that’s too extreme,” she said. “Instead, he’s attempting to influence the Fed by ousting Lisa Cook over allegations that she isn’t even being investigated for. The supposed fraud against her is absurd; she didn’t get preferential mortgage rates, which clearly shows she hasn’t broken any laws. It’s ridiculous,” she concluded.
