Conspiracy Theories on Both Sides
Mainstream media often amplifies conspiracy theories from the right, painting conservatives in a certain light. However, the left isn’t without its own share of bizarre theories.
A particularly interesting yet frustrating theory circulating among some on the left is the notion that the alleged assassination attempt against President Donald Trump was staged to rally support among his followers.
After an incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, many left-leaning individuals quickly suggested that it was all a setup. For instance, some claimed that Trump’s ear injuries were fabricated since he seemed to recover remarkably fast.
“The shooting happened in a very staged environment,” one user remarked, adding, “He just won the election.” This tweet garnered over 230,000 likes on X. It definitely made waves.
Another user quoted Trump saying, “I’ll heal right away,” shortly after the alleged event, echoing the sentiment that it was all staged. This theory gained traction on social media, echoing through messages that received thousands of likes and shares over the past year.
One account even claimed, “In a desperate bid to win votes and avoid prison, Trump staged an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. He’s guilty of two murders!” This post has over 21,000 likes.
Another tweet claimed, “If it was real, the Secret Service would have whisked him off the stage. Instead, they supported him and yelled ‘Fight!’ three times.” This one also gained significant engagement, with more than 129,000 likes.
Meanwhile, theories on social media continue with various claims, such as Trump needing another staged assassination attempt to boost his plummeting approval ratings. One post raised questions about the absence of blood after the incident, amassing over 5,300 likes.
Despite numerous people backing these theories online, there is no solid evidence supporting the idea that the assassination attempt was staged. Even some traditional media sources have dismissed the claims as bizarre.
A political report cited by PBS News stated that the FBI is treating the shooting as a legitimate assassination attempt, seen by numerous attendees and reported on by various news outlets.
