Giants Depth Chart Revealed

Confidence is genuine, that much is clear.

Spring and summer had their own significance.

The preseason game spoke volumes.

After passing various assessments, Jackson Dart surprisingly emerged as the Giants’ backup quarterback.

The first unofficial depth chart for the regular season came out on Tuesday, listing the quarterbacks as follows: Russell Wilson, Jackson Dart, Jameis Winston.

These names are more than just ink on paper; the NFL mandates that teams compile depth charts weekly.

Dart, just 22 and a rookie, edged out Winston to claim the backup spot behind Wilson.

Manager Brian Daboll appears confident that should something happen to Wilson in Sunday’s season opener at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, Dart is capable of stepping up in a way Winston may not.

The Giants secured Dart in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, choosing him with the 25th overall pick.

At that time, the coaching staff had no immediate plans to utilize him on the field.

Throughout training camp, Dart primarily worked with the second team, while Wilson took the lead with starters and Winston focused on third-team units. Interestingly, Dart played in the preseason ahead of Winston.

Of course, the regular season presents its own challenges, as veterans usually take the backup role, while rookies often end up as the third-string quarterback on game day.

But this weekend, that’s not the case for the Giants.

When questioned Monday about who his second-string quarterback would be, Daboll kept his cards close to his chest.

“Yeah, it’s a roster decision based on who will back up and who is ready to step in on Sunday,” he said.

The initial perception heading into summer was that Dart would bide his time behind Wilson and, perhaps, Winston. But Dart’s performance changed that view.

Daboll pushed the young quarterback daily, putting him in unexpected and sometimes tough situations.

Dart, who earned the role through hard work, consistently found ways to excel on the field, adapting as needed.

As for the first depth chart, there were no major surprises.

Greg Van Roten maintained his position as right guard, facing minimal competition from Evan Neal, who shifted to a new role after some struggles at right tackle.

On defense, the starting cornerback alongside rookie Paulson Adebo is either Cor’dale Flott or Deonte Banks, which could lead to interesting match-ups on game days.

Finally, Rakeem Nunez-Roches leads as the first defensive tackle, with Roy Robertson-Harris serving as the backup. Rookie star Abdul Carter backs up external linebacker and starter Brian Burns, while Daniel Bellinger is listed as the second tight end behind Theo Johnson.
