Former Alabama standout critiques top players following defeat to Florida State

AJ McCarron’s Reaction to Alabama’s Game

AJ McCarron, the former quarterback who led Alabama to consecutive national championships in 2011 and 2012, expressed his disappointment after watching the Crimson Tide’s game against the Florida Seminoles. He shared his feelings about the lack of effort from some key players, indicating it was a tough watch for him and many other Alabama fans.

“There was no passion, no fight, no intensity,” he remarked during a podcast. McCarron specifically called out players like Ryan Williams and Deonte Lawson, noting that he expected more drive, especially from Lawson, who he has been following for years. “I watched him play, and I didn’t see that fire tonight,” McCarron added, acknowledging Lawson’s recent struggles following an ACL injury.

In the game, Williams—who was once touted as a potential standout receiver—managed only five catches for 30 yards and ended up in concussion protocol during the fourth quarter. He hasn’t reached 60 receiving yards in a game since a loss to Tennessee State back in October 2024. On the other hand, Lawson, a veteran on the defensive side, recorded four tackles but had a quieter game compared to his previous season’s totals.

The Crimson Tide finds themselves in a challenging position, with fans hoping for a turnaround as they prepare to face Louisiana Monroe in their next game.
