Chefs Daniel Boulud and Jesus Duron create new dining spots in Upper West Side NYC

New Restaurants Coming to New York City’s Upper West Side

This fall, the Upper West Side will see a significant transformation in its dining scene with the arrival of two well-known chefs.

First up is Daniel Boulud, a name that’s probably familiar to many. He is combining three of his longstanding establishments near Lincoln Center into one grand restaurant called Brasserie Boulud. The venue is set to be a major draw, blending elegance with a casual vibe.

The new 7,500-square-foot space, located on the second floor, boasts 170 seats and was designed by David Rockwell. It features a spacious dining area, a lively 27-seat central bar, and even a private dining room. Boulud aims to cater to a variety of tastes, providing both breakfast and dinner options to accommodate those visiting the opera.

“We’re aiming to offer great food at different prices,” Boulud mentioned in a conversation. He expressed enthusiasm about welcoming guests, especially those attending performances at the famous Lincoln Center.

Meanwhile, just a mile north, chef Jesus Delon is preparing to open Ashi, a Mexican-themed restaurant, next month. Delon, who has been the executive chef at Pujol in Mexico City, is known for his innovative approach to modern Mexican cuisine.

Delon visited the future location at 446 Columbus Avenue recently, and it’s evident that excitement is building among the restaurant’s stakeholders. Luis Gonzalez, one of the restaurant’s owners, shared how thrilled they are to have Delon on the team. He’s known for his skillful seven-course tasting menus that emphasize seafood and vegetables, sliding into a more casual vibe with options like tacos.

Interestingly, Delon joins the ranks of other Michelin-starred chefs in the area, including Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who operates at the nearby Jean-Georges restaurant within Trump International Hotel and Tower.

The upcoming opening of Ashi aligns with the return of the Upper West Side’s 15th Flavor, which kicks off on October 15th. This event will feature a special six-course meal presented at Ashi, complemented by offerings from other local eateries.

In addition, 75 nearby restaurants will participate in various gatherings throughout the fall season, adding to the neighborhood’s vibrant culinary landscape.

As an exciting side note, chef Michael Schulson will also launch his first New York City restaurant called Double Knot New York. Located across from Rockefeller Center, this izakaya-style Japanese establishment is rooted in Schulson’s early career. He expressed his deep connection to New York, where his passion for the culinary arts began.

Double Knot will occupy a substantial bi-level space, featuring over 350 seats. The menu promises a delightful array of shared plates and drinks, including rare Japanese whiskies and a global selection of wines.
