Investigation Underway After Gun Video Near UMass Lowell

Authorities, including local police and the FBI in Boston, are looking into a concerning video that surfaced on a social media platform. The footage, shared Wednesday afternoon, appears to show an individual walking near the University of Massachusetts Lowell while holding a gun.

In light of the situation, the university has instructed both students and staff to evacuate. The FBI confirmed their presence on the scene and stated they are coordinating efforts with local law enforcement.

The FBI advised the public to remain aware of their surroundings and to avoid the vicinity. They noted on social media, “We encourage people to stay vigilant and avoid the area.”

Massachusetts State Police acknowledged the video, indicating they had responded to the area for further investigation. They suggested that anyone with pertinent information should contact 911.

Meanwhile, reports of increased police activity have surfaced in areas like Middlesex Street, Pawtucket Street, and Broadway Street, with local officials and law enforcement actively monitoring the developments.

U.S. Representative Lori Trahan, representing Massachusetts, has been keeping an eye on the situation. She reached out to the community via social media, advising residents to heed instructions from local police and the university.

UMass Lowell, a public research university located about 40 minutes north of Boston, is working closely with authorities during this unsettling time. However, the Lowell Police Department has not yet responded to queries from media outlets regarding the incident, and the FBI has chosen not to provide additional comments on the ongoing investigation.
