Tragic Passing of DePaul Soccer Player Chase Stegall
Chase Stegall, a member of the DePaul University men’s soccer team and son of former NFL player Milton Stegall, passed away unexpectedly earlier this year. His death was confirmed by the university in early June, where it was reported he was found in his dorm on the Lincoln Park campus at just 20 years old.
At the time, the specifics surrounding his death weren’t disclosed. Recently, however, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office indicated that the cause of death was “a sudden, unexpected death of epilepsy,” characterizing it as natural.
Stegall had been a sophomore at DePaul and was described by officials as a “valuable member” of the community, known for being a dedicated teammate and a caring friend. Last season, he participated in 16 games, making a mark by scoring the only goal of the season against Drake. It’s interesting to note that he logged nearly 400 minutes on the field this past year after not seeing action during his freshman season.
Milton Stegall, his father, enjoyed a notable career as a wide receiver in the NFL and later in the Canadian Football League. Following his son’s passing, Milton shared an emotional post on Father’s Day, reflecting on the profound change in the day’s significance for him. He mentioned feeling a bit different but still found reasons to express gratitude, stating, “One of my sons plays football in heaven and the other is here on earth. But by God’s grace, I am still the lucky dad in the world.”
This tragic event has deeply affected Chase’s family, friends, and teammates, with many expressing their support and condolences during such a challenging time.
